More shift work
Sir, — Recently the Prime Minister called for the workers to give more consid-
eration to taking on .shift work, pointing out that it is bad economics to leave plant and buildings idle and shut up for 16 hours out of the 24. If we are going to have massive shift work to make more profits, then we shall have to have all the other services operating and available longer too. Taverns must stay open much longer, shops, eating houses, recreational and gymnasium facilities. Pretty soon we shall have more all-night parties than we have now, more traffic at night, more rowdiness and violence. Look at America. — Yours, etc., TED HICKS. April 15, 1979.
