Waimairi’s future

Nobody living in the Wai-| mairi County seems to carei [much about the future of the area. The Waimairi County j Council is reviewing its long-term planning aims. It ■ held public meetings in all! of its nine ridings during; March for citizens to discuss! issues which would affect them. There was an average attendance of 35, and a series of workshops at present under way is attracting even fewer people. Some of the issues being

discussed are problems with noise and ugliness associated with industrial areas near residential areas; increased density of flats with a resulting decrease in privacy and recreational facilities; lack of real choice of available residential environments; whether home-based manufacturing and commercial activities should be based in residential areas; lack of provision for professional services (dentists, architects); and crafts and cottage industries.
