Power charges
Sir, — The South Island supply authorities say it costs twice as much to produce electricity in the North Island as it does in the south. If Mr Muldoon does not accept the justice of the south’s request for a cheaper bulk price than the savagely increased rate from May 1, I should like to suggest that the Christchurch City Council should pay Mr Muldoon what he charges Comalco for electricity (give or take a decimal point or so) and use the difference between that and the proposed new bulk price in force from May 1. This difference, being quite considerable, could well relieve local ratepayers, assist community affairs and even fill a few street potholes. — Yours, etc., G. ASHTON. April 12, 1979.
