Reduction in bursary

Sir, — During 1977 while I was a student at Lincoln College my wife became ill and died. The Education Department responded by cutting my bursary back by $ll a week. Bursary regulations state that widows, widowers and those who have legally separated in their marital status can receive the abated bursary only. They receive less than a single student living away from home. Fortunately, the assistant regis-

trar helped me regain a normal bursary and I suffered no financial hardship. IF - ever, let us all give a standing ovation to the Education Department for including this penalising clause for those who lose their partners by death or otherwise. — Yours, etc., T. R. WILMS. April 12, 1979.
