Player dies after match
A young basketball player collapsed and died after playing in the South Island Easter tournament at Cowles Stadium on Saturday. He was
Alan James Clothier, aged 19, a student at the University of Canterbury.
Mr Clothier collapsed about 11.30 a.m. as he was leaving the stadium after playing for Burnside in a men’s A grade match. He was taken by St John ambulance to the Christchurch Hospital, where he died on Saturday afternoon.
