South Africa and sport
Sir, — In reply to A. J. Campbel] (April 3): Although there have been commendable efforts and achievements in providing equal opportunities for all sportsmen in South Africa, there will never be enough change in the attitudes of those who are not really interested in change in South Africa as such but, through a hoped for impoverishment through isolation, they see the race groups being driven to extremes so creating chaos as a seed-bed for the revolutionary cause and course they prefer to espouse. For the record, however, here is a list of those sports already with one national control body representing whites and non-whites: aero club; athletics; gymnastics; cricket (men); squash (men); paraplegic sports; bowling for the blind; chess; fencing; surf life saving; football; boxing. — Yours, etc., P. R. LINDHORST, Consul General. April 6, 1979.
