West German Rotary scholar
Sir, — I thank Mr Cooper (April 10) for his reply and congratulate him on skilfully misconstruing the word Victorian. This referred not to Rotary’s fund-raising projects ’but to its refusal to allow a 20-year-old woman to entertain a male friend who had travelled 1200 miles, not only to see Miss Teipel but also to see New Zealand. What must these two young people and the rest of the world think of New Zealand now? Victorian? I wonder how many Rotarians were married or had liaisons with the opposite (excuse the word) sex under the age of 20? — Yours, etc., 808 DOCHERTY. April 10, 1979. Sir. ■ — Susanne Teipel has been sent back home because she disregarded a regulation of her sponsorship set by the Rotary Club. The news media has mad© much of this small German girl. Now it is all over and should be forgotten. Maybe, then, Bob Docherty will choose not to bear a grudge and go on that Park-to-Park fun run after all? He will not only do himself a lot of good but will be contributing to a very worthy cause. — Yours, etc., B. S. M. DOLAN. April 10, 1979.
