Kempkers wins title

Freerk Kempkers, already the holder of the South Island title, was a decisive winner of the Canterbury Finn class yachting championship. With four wins, a second and a discarded fourth in the heats, Kempkers finished the series with the concession of only three points under the Olympic lowscoring system. The runner-up, Alister Macfarlane. gained line honours in the other two races, but had a total of 21 points. Third placing went to Ben Winters (25.4 points), who was well clear of Geoff Kelly (45.4) and Dave Campbell (65.1). Kempkers’s success qualifies him for the Canterbury champion-of-champions series to be sailed at Lyttelton on Anzac Day.
