Pakistan quits pact
Pakistan has pulled out of the Central Treaty Organisation (Cento) in a move (which could lead’ to the disI integration of the semi-dor-(mant defence alliance. The Pakistani foreign affairs i I adviser, Agha ■ Shahi, told a I press conference that the ( ; five-member alliance was no; i longer relevant to Pakistan’s ( ; security needs. Iran has also ■ said it would leave the alliance which grew out of the 1955 Bagdad Pact. Iraq quit in 1959. Turkey and Britain are the other full members. The United States is an ■ associate member. — Is-i •lamabad.
