Tennis has damp finish

A shower of rain on Saturday morning washed out the final round in the senior women’s tennis competition. But no-one was perturbed, as Beckenham had already made certain of winning the championship and, indeed, its captain, Sally Chapman had been entrusted with the trophy three days earlier.

Beckenham’s victory—its first in the women’s championship—was accomplished by the youthful team of Miss Chapman, Julie Verdellen. Ann Davidson, and Lyn Cowie, with occasional appearances by Pat Grace. Final points were: Beckenham 74. United 51. Elmwood 44, Avonside 39. Edgeware 8.
