Wet, cloudy month

Last month was the wettest and cloudiest March on record in Christchurch, according to the Weather Office. Total rainfall for the month, recorded at the Botanic Gardens, was 187 mm, compared with the average March figure of 54mm. The previous highest rainfall of 172 mm was recorded in 1965. In spite of the rain and cloud, temperatures were about normal. The average temperature for March, recorded at the airport, .was 14.6 degrees. The highest maximum, on March 3, was 28.4 degrees, and the average daily maximum was 18.3 degrees.
