Road tunnel closing

Sir, — Cr Skellerup chooses to cream over the original Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority employees’ lawful stand as “spilt milk ’. So the Lyttelton Harbour Board sends a congratulatory telegram to Mr

Muldoon. How condescending: we are labelled the whingeing south by the economic miracle. The Harbour Board does not seek any continuing pressure put on for an inter-island ferry link for passengers and cargo, even to save energy; nor does it negotiate for any special regional concessions. The negotiators of the Lyttelton Road Tunnel Authority pay discussion received no support from the board. Nowhere was Mr Muldoon nor the Minister of Labour the negotiator. If there is any credit it belongs to the Trades Council, negotiators, the management, staff and the authority which was dissolved on April 1. — Yours, etC ” G. D. STANLEY. April 5, 1979.
