Air fares

Sir, — I congratulate your travel editor, Mr Bloxham, for American comment on Air New Zealand’s fares and protectionism (“The Press,” April 6). In the course of re-

cent. TV interviews, Air New Zealand spokesmen have accused Australian and American interest of protectionism by keeping Air New Zealand out of the lower price fare market between Australia and the United States. In fact it is Air New Zealand sheltering behind protective price barriers which denies New Zealanders the reasonable fares which are available to Australians and Americans. What use to the New Zealand public is a national airline which actively denies travel opportunities to New Zealanders and deters tourists from visiting the country. It is unfortunate that TV2’s recent coverage did not look at the question of markets and air fares from the point of view of the New Zealander who would like to fly. — Yours, etc.,

D. J. MARSHALL. April 6, 1979.
