Second channel
Sir, — We, the Canterbury Television Viewers’ Association, heard, with dismay, Mr Templeton’s late evening news remarks, on TVI tonight, that he is not in favour of selling one channel, TV2 presumably, and suggests that a further $lO be imposed in licence fees. We pity the “poor consumer” who is overtaxed and overcharged almost out of existence already. Our association is totally opposed to such a move. We have advocated through pamphlets, radio news, and newspaper releases that one channel be run by private enterprise which, we have no doubt, would lead to greater competition and therefore much better viewing. — Yours, etc., C. A. K LOWE, President, Canterbury Television Viewers’ Association. April 5, 1979.
