Sentencing of receivers postponed
The sentencing of Frederick William Sharp, aged 54, former proprietor of the Station Hotel, and his wife Agnes Edwards Sharp, aged 53, has been postponed by Mr Justice Roper in the Supreme Court to April 11, or sooner if probation officers’ reports are available. Mrs Sharp was remanded on bail of $lOOO and Mr Sharp in custody. On Thursday Mrs Sharp was found guilty by a jury on a charge of receiving from Robert White, a former railway worker, men’s and women’s clothing, cosmetics
and footwear valued at $3OO when she knew the articles | : had been stolen. Her husband, Frederick i I Sharp, then pleaded guilty toj ' a charge of receiving 40,000! cigarettes valued at $1270! • from Robert Charles Purdy,! a barman, when he knew! they had been stolen. Both accused were re-| ! manded to yesterday fori sentence but when the case! was called in the afternoon! his Honour told counsel fori both (Mr M. J. Glue) that he was not prepared to sentence them in an arbitory manner and required probation officers’ reports.
