FLOODLIT RUGBY

The Canterbury B Rugby team will play Canterbury Colts under floodlights at Denton Oval on August 21 as a "test” match for night games at the ground. This was announced by Mr L. J. Russell at a meeting of the management committee of the Canterbury Rugby Union last evening. “This will be a trial for the ground, the. lights, the players and their gear," he said. A white ball will be used for the game, which will start at 7.30 p.m. Mr B. E. Powell said he had refereed a night game at the ground two years ago. “Everything was fine —except for the fog.” he said. "At times the players lost sight of the ball in the air But the lights have been improved since then.” The committee appointed Mr M. R. Barnett, its junior vicepresident. as manager of the Canterbury A team on its North Island tour this month. Mr G. G Don was confirmed a« manager of the Canterbury B side for the rest of the season.
