AUCKLAND, Jan. 19

A record 26,552 passengers flew in and out of Auckland Airport across the Tasman between December 19 and January 8. In the same period last year the traffic was 21.811 passengers. The figures were compiled by three Tasman airlines from traffic records.

The busiest period was in the week before Christmas when there were 10,257 passengers. In the week between Christmas and New Year there were 8038 passengers, and in the first week in January, 8257.

In the same period, Wellington Airport handled 7534 passengers (7168 last year), and Christchurch 12,363 (10,715).
