Wool sale prices ease again
The wool market lost some of its lustre when the fifth Christchurch sale ended yesterday. After Monday’s dramatic rises, prices for all classes of wool eased again. However, at the end they were still well ahead of the last fine-wool sale in Dunedin, at the middle of last month, and also ahead of last week’s crossbred sale at Wanganui. The sale reversed Monday’s trend, when values appreciated steadily throughout the day. After a promising start the trend was downward all day for fine wools yesterday. Crossbred wools levelled out after declining also. Merinos declined fully 2} per cent; halfbreds and Corriedales, 2j to 7J per cent, and crossbreds 2j to 7i per cent But Merinos finished about lie up on the last local sale in early December, halfbred and Corriedales He to 13c better and crossbreds from 9c to 13c up. The slackening in the finer wools was attributed to rates on Monday outstripping the Australian market A spurt of buying on Monday may have been to fill forward sales. (Full report, page 8.)
