THEFT AT Y.M.C.A.
About $4OO worth of travellers cheques, $5O in cash and personal papers were stolen from a room at the Y.M.C.A., Hereford Street on Tuesday night. The property was in a wallet belonging to Captain L. Holmes a retired master mariner of Miami Beach, Florida. Captain Holmes is in New Zealand on holiday. The wallet, which also contained a gold pocket watch and a room key on a chain, was taken from a shelf in Captain Holmes’s room. The burglar must have entered the room through the window which was open, said Captain Holmes. The room door was locked. “I must have disturbed him because my camera and glasses were not touched. “I have been round the world many, many times and this is the first time I have lost anything through burglary,” he said. “The money is of secondary importance, but I need the papers.” Among the documents taken were a military identification card and fraternity cards.
