Baby Thrown In Crash—Unhurt

(New Zealand Press Association) DANNEVIRKE, October 23. A 20-month-old boy catapulted from a car and over a 20-foot bank was uninjured when he landed in mud after a spectacular three-car accident near Dannevirke on Saturday night.

The child is Gerald Charles Olsen, son of Mr and Mrs N. C. Olsen, of Masterton.

The child and others who suffered minor injuries were treated by a doctor at the scene of the accident. Mr Olsen was driving towards Dannevirke when his right front tyre blew out on a sharp curve, and the car careered across the road, hit another car and somersaulted over the bank. The second car was spun around on the road, causing it to collide with a following car.

The child was apparently thrown through the framework left by the car’s windscreen, which fell to the ground in one piece. A pet dog which was riding in the car with the Olsen family was also thrown out and has not yet been recovered.

No-one was seriously Injured.

Killed In Collision A young man was killed instantly when the light saloon car in which he was travelling was involved in a head-on collision at Te Puna, a few miles west of Tauranga, early on Saturday evening. He was William Dennes Reid, aged 19, of Tauranga. His car collided with a car driven by Gordon Hughes. Three Injured Three Christchurch men were admitted to the Grey Hospital on Friday night as a result of injuries suffered in motor accidents. Their condition was described last evening as being satisfactory. Mr R. M. Wilson, aged 41, suffered head injuries when the car he was driving crashed into a power pole about 7.45 p.m. The pole was snapped and power cut off in the Karoro area and as far south as Kumara and traffic had to be guided past the low dangling wires.

When a rental car failed to negotiate a bend on the main highway at Wainihinihi, between Kumara and Otira about 9 p.m. on Friday, the driver, Ronald Charles Quar-

terman, aged 31, suffered leg and shoulder injuries and his passenger, Jack Brockenshire, aged 50, suffered back and shoulder injuries.
