J Smith Memorial Handicap, the feature race at Alexandra Park on Saturdav ntght. Tobias was a.way* handy and raced to the front approaching the final quarter. At the home turn he was four or five lengths clear and he won. easing down, bv eight lengths. Oakhampton. the backmarker on 30 yards, battled valiantly Into second, three-quarters of a length in front of the littlefancied John Dee. There was a gap to Quesnel (fourth), which was forced over extra ground. Th* F. J. Smith Memorial Handicap was th* first leg of the T A B. double.

The second leg, th* Epsom Free-for-all. was won by Top Copy. The double paid £43 14s Cd for £l.

Top Copy won narrowly from the unlucky southerner. Medico, which did not get clear until near the home turn, where Chequer Board and Top Copy had shot well clear. Medico easily beat th* wilting Chequer Board out of second, but he Just failed to peg back Top Copy. Results:
