TROTTING Lordship Favoured At Oamaru Today
Although he will have to give away starts up to 48 yards. Lordship will be a firm favourite for the Hannon Memorial Handicap at Oamaru today.
This race, over 10 furlongs, will he the first leg of the T.A.B. double. The second leg, the Dan Cant Memorial Handicap, will be run over the same distance. The field for the Hannon Memorial includes seven of the horses expected to oppose Lordship in the New Zealand Cup on November 8 and great interest will he taken in their! performances. The Oamaru race has not been a lucky one for Lordship, j which finished third in it at i three years and again the next | spring before he went on to win the New Zealand Cup. Lordship has won three of his last four starts, and finished an unlucky fourth in the Ashburton Flying Stakes at his other start. He is in outstanding form and should] prove a class above his 10 rivals. Disband finished third behind Lordship and Fielder at Forbury Park on October 8 and she might have been a shade unlucky. She can sprint and stay and should make a bold showing. Robin Dundee has not raced since she finished an unlucky ninth in the Ashburton Flying Stakes. She has not been idle at Addington since then and will strip in great order. She won this race 12 months ago from 24 yards, and will start from 42 yards this time. The size of the field could help her show to advantage. Waitaki Hanover. Master Alan and Cuddle Doon appeal most of the others. Chief Command, runner-up to Powerful Light over two miles at Motukarara, should gain an overdue first win for the season in the second leg of this double. He will appreciate his return to sprint racing. Abbey Frost, Eyreton, Winfield Chief, Why Not, Viewin and Raven Song are others capable of adding interest to the finish. The on-course double will be run on the Totara Handicap and the President’s Handicap. Brigade’s Advice and Mon Amie form a likely combination. Fair weather is forecast and the track will be in good order.
