VIETNAM POLICY
P.M. Goes To Talks
The Government had not been asked for and had not discussed any increase in New Zealand’s military commitments in Vietnam in the last year, said the Prime Minister (M r Holyoake) i n Christchurch on Saturday.
He was asked whether he was taking any proposals to Manila for an increase or reduction of the Dominion's military commitments in Vietnam.
Speaking at the airport before leaving for Australia, on his way to the Manila conference, Mr Holyoake said that the very warm welcome given to President Johnson was an expression of the Dominion’s regard and support for the person himself, the Government of the United States and its policies. The Prime Minister said that any discussion on peace proposals depended on North Vietnam being willing to come to the conference table to negotiate a settlement.
