Press Association) Th ' ■ AP,A ’ ° Ct 23 lhe formation of a Pacific marketing board for more effective marketing of produce from Fiji, Tonga and Western .Samoa was discussed at Apia 'by copra producer representa- ■ tives this week. The discussions were between the Western Samoa Copra Board under the chairmanship of the Minister of Apiculture, and Messrs C. D. Aidney. P. B. Matsau, and J. S. Matheson (secretary) of the Fiji Coconut Board. ’ The Fijian representatives had earlier had talks in Tonga with the Tonga Copra i Board.
The meeting agreed that the formation of a marketing board encompassing the three territories was desirable. The representatives recommended that the three territories co-ordinate research into the coconut industry, and investigate the possibility of combining shipments of copra and cocoa by chartered ship. Further meetings will be held every six months, with the next meeting in Fiji in [May.
