Pro-Chancellor Re-elected
Mr T. H. McCombs was reelected unopposed as ProChancellor of the University of Canterbury yesterday.
New MemberB.—Professor A. S. Carrington (Professorial Board) and the Very Rev. M. W. Wilson (graduates) were welcomed as new members of toe council.
Obituary.—Emeritus Professor R. S. Allan’s death was recorded with regret. The Chancellor (the Rt Rev. A. K. Warren) said Professor Allan had left his own memorials in research, in teaching, and in the unusual foyer of the new geology department at Ham.
American Studies.—Mr P. R. May (history) will join the Canterbury group attending the Australian and New Zealand American Studies Association conference in Canberra in August
Political Science.—Dr. J. R. Flynn (political science) will attend the Australasian Political Science Association conference in Canberra to present a paper and also some
sessions of the American studies conference.
Nuffield Fellowship.—Dr. A. Fischer (chemistry) will have 15 months’ leave to take up a Nuffield Dominion travelling fellowship in natural sciences at the University of Sussex and also visit the United States.
Symposium in Japan.—Mr P. J. Bryant will attend a symposium in Japan on boundary layers and turbulence in September.
Visit to France.—Professor R. T. Sussex, bead of modern languages, will visit France in December as a guest of the French Government
Degree Conferred.—The degree of bachelor of engineering (chemical) was conferred on Lewis Wayne Gay.
Library Gifts.—The German Embassy has presented six parcels of books to the Germanic languages department and the Rev. David Taylor has presented more thas 100 books on theology, periodicals, and manuscripts to the general library.
