Attack On Bill (Nt. Preu AisociationJ WELLINGTON, July 25. “The Consumer Council BUI now before Parliament is an ill-conceived measure which can only reduce the protection now given to the consumer," said Mr M. C. Muir, a vicepresident of the Publie Service Association.

“The most curious of the bill's provisions gives the Manufacturers’ and Retailers’ Federations a voice in appointing the Consumer Council," said Mr Muir. “They could well prove to be the council’s Trojan horse as a genuine guardian of the consumers’ interests.

“It looks seriously like a cheap take-over of the fabric for consumer protection by the business interests which have always opposed it “The manufacturers and retailers make their money by selling the commodities being scrutinised. They can have no proper place in such a set-up. Their representation is clearly inconsistent with the basic purpose of a consumer organisation,” he said.
