Soccer Cup Finalists

Playing with more purpose and generally displaying better team-work, Ponsonby beat the holder, Eastern Suburbs, in a North Island semi-final of the Chatham Cup at Newmarket Park on Saturday. Ponsonby won. 2-1. Ponsonby wtu meet Miramar Rangers, of Wellington, in the North Island final at Auckland on August 20. Miramar qualified for the final by beating Moturoa. 34). at New Plymouth on Saturday. G. Wells scored first, for Pon•onby, and J. D. WrathaU equalised from a penalty. The winning goal was scored by the Fijian international, B. Sue. in the seventy-fifth minute. Miramar, with a strong and fast-tackling cover defence, kept a determined Moturoa side at bay. Play was even tn the first half. Miramar scoring the only goal. Witbin minutes of the changeover Miramar scored twice more, and although Moturoa tried to save the game with determined attacks, the Miramar cover defence could not be beaten.
