There is also provision for post-graduate work leading to higher degrees and active research is being carried out in queueing theory, singular perturbations, functional analysis, wave propagation. acoustics, relativity and electromagnetic theory. The library holdings are good with current subscriptions to approximately ISO journals. The University possesses two computers—an IBM 1620 and a PDP-6. This latter machine is fully time-shared, consisting of 16K (36 bit) 1.75 micro sec. core, eight microtapes, high speed card reader and Una printer, CRT display with light pen and six remote consoles. The Department is conducting research in four fields: political behaviour in Australia; administrative institutions and organisation theory; comparative politics with special reference to Communist states and to Papua and New Guinea: and world politics with special reference to supra national organisations and war and peace theories. The Head of the Department is Professor R. S. Parker. The duties of the second Chair will be to conduct research. supervise post graduate students, and assist in the administration of the Department.
