ELECTORAL ROLLS
Good Response To Inquiry There had been a gratifying response from electors in the recent campaign to bring electoral rolls up to date, the Acting Registrar of Electors in Christchurch (Mr F. G. I Elsmore) said on Wednesday. ! Mr Elsmore said that ; 140.000 inquiry cards had been sent out to people (known to be on the rolls asking them if they were still at the same address or had; moved to another electorate. | More than 90 per cent of i the cards had been returned,] Mr Elsmore said. Mr Elsmore asked those] who were entitled to be on; the electoral rolls, but had' not enrolled, to do so as soon, as possible. People who had recently (turned 21 should take par( {ticular notice of their obli-j (gation to be enrolled. To qualify to be on the roll a person over 21 must be a British subject by birth or naturalisation: have resided in New Zealand at least one full year and resided in an electoral district for three months. The main rolls for the coming general election will close next Wednesday. Enrolment forms are still available at Post Offices and; all offices of registrars of electors. All persons either of European or Maori extraction must have their names on the electoral rolls. Mr Elsmore said the new electoral rolls would probably be out some time in September.
