FAST, CLOSE BASKETBALL
Rep. Matches In Ashburton In a fast and very close game of indoor basketball, Canterbury men’s B team beat MidCanterbury by 67 goals to 55. The game was the best exhibition of men’s indoor basketball seen in Ashburton this season. The outstanding player on the court was R. Paterson, of Mid-Canterbury, whose general play was excellent. Both teams were evenly matched and it was only in the last five minutes of the game that Canterbury was able to draw away from its opponents. The set shooting of the Canterbury team was of a very high standard, and G. Orchard and S. Hunt were outstanding in this respect. Scores were: Canterbury B 67 (G. Orchard 20. S. Hunt 20. A. Riley 10. K. Milligan 8). MidCanterbury 55 (R. Paterson 10, S. Bennett 8, T. Freeman 8). Women’s Match The Mid-Canterbury senior women's team beat an invitation Canterbury team in another good display of basketball, by 55 goals to 40. L. Gray and L. Curtis were the main scorers for Mid-Can-terbury, while L. Webster was the main scorer for the Canterbury team. The scores were: Mid Canterbury 55 (M. Gray 20, L. Curtis 16, H. Wellman 8). Canterbury invitation team 40 (L. Webster 16, B. Rameka 8).
