Watch For Liquor

The police were cooperating with the Victory Park Board in attempting to stop spectators taking liquor into Lancaster Park today, the secretary of the board (Mr K. N. McGillivray) said yesterday. He said that the presence and consumption of alcohol at Lancaster Park were prohibited under the board’s by-laws, and offenders at the Canter-bury-Lions game today would be liable to a fine of up to £5. A police spokesman said that liquor would not be confiscated: spectators with liquor would be told to remove it from the park. Spectators who left the park for this purpose would have little chance of getting back again if they were on the embankment. Mr McGillivray and the police spokesman said there had been criticism of the consumption of liquor at last Saturday’s test match at Dunedin.
