RACIAL RIOTS

Fights In Brooklyn (N.Z. Press Assn.—Copyright) NEW YORK, July 22. Hundreds of screaming Negro and white youths fought on Brooklyn streets last night in New York’s worst outbreak of racial disorders this summer. The outbreak was controlled early today and about 1000 policemen are patrolling the area. Four policemen were injured in the violence, which began after an 11-year-old boy was shot dead by a sniper. The victim, Eric Dean, was shot in the chest while standing on a street corner. When reports circulated that he was slain by a white man the melee started. In Cleveland, Ohio, violence broke out for the fourth successive night in the battlescarred east side slum area. More fires were set and gangs of white teen-agers riding through the predominantly Negro area added a new element of trouble.
