Austerity Money University of Canterbury students raised £92 9s 4d on austerity day, held on Thursday. The money, which will go towards the Operation 21 Youth Against Hunger campaign, was raised by donations and from an austerity meal of thin soup and rice. The organiser (Miss P. N. Macnab) said yesterday that the response to the appeal was pleasing. Premature The retirement of milk-cart horses from the United Dairies run at Westport, announced on Monday was very shortlived. When faced with unexpected difficulties in carrying out a new delivery schedule by motor transport the new contractor (Mr J. McAuley) enlisted the aid of boys and horses most familiar with the run, and they may be assisting for some time.—(F.O.R.).
