Planning Urged
The South Island Local Bodies’ Association will take steps to ensure that the natural beauty of the Haast Pass and similar areas will not be defaced by unwanted development. It decided yesterday to ask the Westland County what is being done to control the opening of shops in the Haast area. Delegates expressed concern that unless some form of control was imposed at the Haast, a string of unsightly shops and buildings would open before long. The association decided to ask the Westland County Council to prohibit people starting in business at the pass until a development plan had been drawn up.
