A woman who took a job for two weeks to help out when someone was U 1 and who retired recently after 45 years’ service, was thanked at an official function on Wednesday. Miss L. G. Cameron, secretary of the Melanesian and Polynesian mission committees for 45 years, was thanked at a presentation in the Cathedral crypt. Besides distributing all Pacific mission propaganda in the South Island, and welcoming missionaries to Christchurch, Miss Cameron established the annual mission market and the Asociates of Melanesia. She also composed the prayers used on the annual day of prayer for mission work.
Anyone who had anything to do with the work of Polynesia or Melanesia over a great span of years would immediately think of Miss Cameron, said the Dean of Christchurch and Bishop-elect, the Very Rev. W. A. Pyatt A presentation of an electric clothes drier and a cheque was made to Miss Cameron by the chairman of the Polynesian committee, the Rev. J. D. Fraud, on "behalf of your friends both in and outside of Christchurch.”
