Van Patch For Templeton
“The Press" Special Service INVERCARGILL.
The Van Dieman four-year-old, Van Patch, will be sent to Canterbury this week to join C. C. Devine's Templeton team.
Devine, who owns and raced Van Dieman, one of New Zealand’s finest stayers, has been most successful in the training of Van Dieman’s stock. Van Patch failed to win a race as a four-year-old this season, but had his full share of setbacks.
As a three-year-old his form was particularly good. He won four races and was twice placed from nine starts.
The Auckland trotting trainer, S. Baker, visited Southland during the week and made several purchases on behalf of himself and members of his family. They included three weanlings by Dick Adios, one by Flying Song and three brbod mares. The brood mares will be left in Southland to be mated with Dick Adios in the spring.
