CUTIN AID
Johnson Defied
(N.Z.P.A.-Reuter—Copyright) WASHINGTON, July 21. The Senate defied President Johnson again yesterday by cutting 250 million dollars from the foreign aid programme for the financial year . which began on July 1. The Senate had rejected an Administration request for authorisation for a two-year aid programme, instead of one year as at present. In its action yesterday the chamber voted, 59 to 34, to cut the development loan funds of the economic aid provision of the Foreign Aid Bill, which the Administration has described as already pared to the bare bones. The vote came on an amendment submitted by Senator E. Dirksen, the Republican leader in the Senate, who based his argument on the need to combat inflation and to save money.
