Traffic Rules
Sir, —I would back up “Road Code Follower.” Can anybody tell me why motor vehicles are fitted with horns? They are used only at the testing station and by impatient drivers. I am one of the small minority of drivers who adhere to the 30m.p.h. limit, but I never get a blast of the horn because 1 travel as near the left-hand kerb as 1 can. Take these impatient drivers who speed at 40 to 45 miles an hour from town to Papanui and pass me. After they have passed through the lights they would probably be one to two minutes ahead of me at Papanui and then time is no object. They will stand and yam for half an hour or more, and I have yet to see a travelling salesman in a shop who is in a hurry. It is only when they get into a motor-car.—Yours, etc., ROAD CODE FOLLOWER No. 2. July 21, 1966.
