TORTTING Toby Brigade Back In Work At Chertsey
trainer J. L. Behrns, has made another start with Toby Brigade, a P acer 7 the top company three seasons ago. A during restricted his racing since then and he did not start at all k the current season.
Behrns said recently that Toby Brigade had recovered well from an accident in which he had gashed a tendon. He had had a long spell and had done well since resuming jogging a few weeks ago.
Toby Brigade, a rising eight-year-old gelding by Light Brigade from Eileen Lilian, has not raced since the New Zealand Cup meeting in 1964. He had only two starts that season and at the first of them he was narrowly beaten into fourth place in a sprint won by Spring Legs in 2min 37 3-5 sec. If Toby Brigade stands up to training he should not be long showing worthwhile form. He is assessed at 2min 15sec and will have plenty of racing to suit him early in the new season. Kyle View is also on. the injured list He underwent an operation to a knee a few weeks ago, but whether he will be able to race again is not certain. If the injury responds satisfactorily Kyle View may be able to race again next autumn. He has been off the scene since last December. Cardinal King, Space Cadet and Why Not will probably be on hand for the national meeting next month-at Addington Raceway. Cardinal King is certain to create interest in his early attempts in restricted age events. He won the Methven Two-year-old Stakes and finished the season with a splendid second to the top colt, Holy Hal, in the New Zea-
land Sapling Stakes at Ashburton. . . ... The son of First Lord did well during a short let-up following the Ashburton classic and it should not take much fast work to bring him back to a high peak of fitness.
Two Wins Space Cadet had a moderately successful season, gaining two wins and seven placings from 25 starts. The Johnny Globe stallion was a shade disappointing at times, but his peak efforts suggested that he would not be out of his depth in the best pacing company he is likely to encounter in the spring. Space Cadet is on a 2min 11 sec mark over all distance and one distance win will qualify him for the New Zealand Cup in November. Why Not had only eight starts this season, her best effort being a second to Paranova in the Ashburton County Handicap on June 6. She is far from being a spent force and could yet live up to the high opinion formed of her earlier. Ten Grand and Glenburn are being prepared for early country meetings and all going well they will start off at the Kurow meeting on August 13 at Oamaru. Ten Grand failed to show form in a few starts for Behrns in the winter, but he has a fair turn of speed and could soon make amends. Glenburn is a rising five-year-old gelding by First Lord from Fiona Fay. A rising three-year-old colt by Whipster from Stylish Linda, the dam also of Linda Marie and Kim Marie, and a rising five-year-old mare by Morano from Kyle Nurse are being prepared for early qual-
ifying events. The Morano mare is the only surviving foal of Kyle Nurse, a speedy daughter of Attack.
