CLUB LOST £6461
Paid £67,000 Tax "The Press” Special Service DUNEDIN. An aspect of the burden of taxation carried by racing clubs in New Zealand is illustrated by the annual report and balance-sheet of the Dunedin Jockey Club which shows a loss of £6461 for the year’s workings after paying £67,209 in taxes. The club increased its stake money by £lBOO to £34,110 for nine meetings during the year. Adverse weather conditions at the club’s cup meeting in December affected the club’s revenue, which was £3OOO lower than the same meeting the previous year. The totalisator investments amounting to £729,275 were down both on and off-course on the previous year. The on-course turn-over was £332,583 compared with £381,869 and the off-course investments were £396,691, against £410,148.
