Princes* Margriet, the 23-year-old third daughter of Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard, will marry a commoner, Mr Pieter van Volienhoven, aged 26, at The Hague on January 10. The announcement came after the First Chamber (upper house) of Parliament approved a Bill consenting to the wedding. Under the Dutch constitution, Parliament has to consent to the wedding of possible successors to the throne. Princess Margriet is the second in line, after Princess Beatrix, the Dutch Royal couple’s eldest daughter.
