Lachasse: Hems Below The Knee
(Special Crspdt. N.Z.P.A.) LONDON, July 20. A scathing attack on the mini-skirt was launched by the British house of Lachasse this week at the showing of Its autumn collection in London.
Hemlines had been dropped two inches below the knee. Many skirts were shown with a double vent at the backothers were pleated all round.
The predominating feature of this collection was the “pyramid” look, Which ran through nearly every garment shown. Overcoats appeared in huge tent-like shapes, suit jackets fl aired out from a high yoke, and long evening dresses had wide triangular skirts. Coats were collarless, with long scarves thrown dramatically over one sihoulder—but cocktail and evening dresses
were cut with high fronts and very low, square backs. The main colour theme, which appeared repeatedly and drew great applause from the audience was black, white, and red. The most dynamic number was a black and white slirnskirted suit with the inevit-
able pyramid-shaped jacket and scarf, which were discarded to reveal a literally shocking, pink, very lowbacked blouse.
