COAL FIND AT HUNTLY
‘Years Before Seams Mined’ (N.Z. Press Association) HAMILTON, July 20. It would be some years before the newly prospected seams of Huntly coal were mined, said Mr G. K. Keown. Assistant Under-Secretary for Mines. “The so-called ‘new’ seams, are not new at all,” said Mr Keown. “It was already known there were large reserves of coal in the area and we are only now beginning to prove these reserves,” he said . About eight test holes have been drilled and several more would be drilled, he said. “These seams will provide an alternative to the mines in the area which are almost exhausted,” said Mr Keown.
