DEPLORES HER OMISSION
(New Zealand Press Association) AUCKLAND. Delegates of the Auckland Athletic Centre have passed a resolution deploring the attitude of the Empire Games Association in not naming the discus thrower, Mrs H. Thayer, for the New Zealand team.
The centre endorsed every action of the Amateur Athletic Association in attempting to get Mrs Thayer added to the team. The Auckland centre has received a letter from Mrs Thayer, who is living In the United States, in which she asks: "What is meant by lateness?”
She said she had posted a certificate of her performance to the N.Z.0.8.G.A. on June 17, and that as air mail from the United States to New Zealand took only five
days, the letter should have reached this country on or about June 22.
A copy of the N.Z.A.A.A minutes, in which it was stated that the certificate was in the hands of the Olympic body before June 30—the deadline for final games selection—but was not passed over to the N.Z.A.A.A. until after that date, will be forwarded by the Auckland centre to Mrs Thayer. Mrs Thayer said in her letter that her discus throw of 163 ft Bin was the best in the Commonwealth this year.
