NO NEED FOR BAN

Liquor And N.Z. Team f.N’.Z. Press Association! AUCKLAND. The need for a ban on the drinking of liquor by New Zealand members of the Empire Games team would probably never arise, the team manager, Mr R. Shakespeare, said in Auckland yesterday Commenting on a report i that Australians would be banned from drinking except at official functions, Mr Shakespeare said that such ' a measure had not been necessary in the past with New Zealand teams. “Members realise their responsibilities but should the occasion ever arise where such a ban was needed it would certainly be made,” he said.

The question of drinking was more or less covered in a contract that team members had to sign. •The contract says that members will act in a responsible manner at all times and this should be adequate,” said Mr Shakespeare.
