Top Table Tennis Teams Win
The four leading teams in the Canterbury senior table tennis competition had comfortable wins in the eleventh round of matches played last evening. Selwyn, Avonside, Eagles and Wallabies Green all won by nine matches to three. H. P. Holt (Selwyn) continued his good form by defeating C. W. C. Tilby (University) after Tilby had appeared certain to win. However, he again had trouble with B Prendergast and lost In straight games. V. N. Brightwell (Selwyn) again won all his singles but, with Holt, lost the final doubles to Tilby and Prendergast In the best match of the evening. Record In Danger J. Armstrong (Eagles) continued his unbeaten record but should have lost to N. B. Radford (Wallabies Red) who threw the match away. Mrs M. J. Shadbolt won two singles matches and continued her good form. M. R. Spinks and G. R. Saunders both won all three singles matches for Wallabies Green tn a contest in which Linwood won only three matches although eight went to the advantage game. Avonside overwhelmed Celtic but B. T. Edwards was tn excellent form and hit K. Ward off the table in an upset victory. Competition points are: Selwyn 18, Avonside 16, Eagles 14, Wallabies Green 12, Celtic 8, Linwood 8, Wallabies Red 7, University 4. Results were:— Wallabies Green 9, Linwood 3 M. R. Spinks beat N. C. Orr, 22- 16-21, 21-18; beat G. Makinson, 21-12, 21-12; beat J. E. Kyle, 21-12, 22-20. G. R. Saunders beat Kyle, 21-15, 17-21, 21-18; beat Orr, 17-21. 23-21, 21-18; beat Maklneon, 21-12, 19-21, 21-18. R G. Hart beat Makinson, 21-16, 10-21, 21-11; lost to Kyle, 21-16, 23- 15-21; lost to Orr, 19-21, 23-21, 15-21. Saunders and Hart beat Makinson and Orr. 21-14, 21-11; Spinks and Hart lost to Kyle and Orr, 21-16, 16-21, 13-21; Spinks and Saunders beat Kyle and Makinson, 21-13, 21-14.
