ZAMBIA SACKS WHITE POLICE
(N.t. Frets Association— Copyright) LUSAKA, July 17. The Zambian Government has paired the white ranks of its police force, sacking 17 top-level police and special branch officers.
Announcing that the officers, mostly British, were in the public interest, _ the Government told the officers last Thursday that they were dismissed instantly and ordered them not to enter their offices.
African security officers
searched the offices for evidence that the sacked men had allegedly leaked information to the government in neighbouring Rhodesia. One of the sacked officers responded: “It is ridiculous to think we are spies or agents. Some of us have been here for more than 10 yeare. I am completely shattered by this. “Making it worse as the fact that the Government is refusing to pay us holiday money and other gratuities to which we are entitled.” The men have been given 10 days to vacate their homes.
