ALVA CAPE PILOT

Charge By U.S. Coastguard (N.Z. Press Assn—Copyright) NEW YORK, July 19. The United States Coastguard yesterday charged the docking pilot of the British tanker Alva Cape with negligence in the collision of his ship with the United States tanker Texaco Massachusetts in the Kill Van Kull Channel, New York, on June 16. Thirty-three people died as a result of the collision, which also involved two tugboats. The Coastguard announced the charge after a three-man board reviewed testimony gathered at a lengthy hearing into the disaster.
