China

Sir,—“l have just come down from hill station Mussoorie, seat of the Ualai Lama’s exile Government. I have also just come down from Cloud Cuckooland. At an international legal inquiry in Mussoorie I heard the Dalai Lama reel off a list of fantastic allegations against Red China. But he made no attempt to prove his allegations. Not a single document was produced. Not a shred of evidence was produced. . . .” This is the beginning of the dispatch of George Gale, correspondent for the London “Daily Express," who was present at an inquiry set up by the international Commission of Jurists. Felix Greene, who, like D. Vicars, has read the commission’s report, says (in chapter 13) that since this report formed the basis of “countless editorials thundering against Chinese ‘genocide’ in Tibet, it is worth quoting Mr Gale’s dispatch in full.” Space forbids it here.—Yours, etc., PACATOR. July 18, 1966.
