Stole Their Limelight
(N.Z. Press Association) AUCKLAND. The Empire Games athletes, IKss B. Matthews. L. R. Mills, D. C. Norrie, R. Hargreavee and R. WiHiams. were all in excellent form at Mt. Smart Stadium in Auckland yesterday, but the young Waitemata club junior, J. Antunortch. stole the Mmelight with a shot put which lowered bls record of Sift Tin, achieved only one week earlier. Antunovich, whom his coach. Mr J. C. Heilwood, predicts will better 60 feet before he enters the senior ranks next April, put sett liin as measured with a steel tape. This puts him in a class well above any former New Zealand junior field events athlete. The Empire Games athletes ■N produced times and distances which would have done justice to a track meeting in the height of summer. Mills bettered 60 feet twice with the shot and Hargreaves, although a Uttte below last week, put 54ft Sin. Norris jumped 24ft lln and triple jumped 48ft 6in. Miss Matthews handled the heavy track competently to leap the 80 metres hurdles in ll.lsec. The team wM leave Auckland on Friday.
